Britten’s Endgame – John Bridcut’s new film on BBC Four Thursday 14 November

Celebrating the centenary of composer Benjamin Britten, Film maker John Bridcut’s new film is to be shown on BBC Four this Thursday 14 November. The film was shot back in January and Event Projection were brought on board to supply a giant screen behind the orchestra.

The film examines Britten at the end of his life and his work on his final Opera, Death in Venice. Against medical advice, he was diagnosed with a serious heart condition in 1970 battled to complete his masterpiece as “a supreme gift” to Peter Pears, his partner.

With theatres across the land, not to mention the media jumping all over the centenary at the moment, the film is an opportunity for viewers to explore in depth the links between his work and his life.
With a full orchestra brought in for the film and the aforementioned projected archive footage, classical music fans you have a date in your diary.
